It had to happen. Manufacturers are fighting to fill every possible niche these days, but only Rinspeed has thought to make an underwater zero-emissions car. Due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008, Rinspeed says the aptly named sQuba is the ‘world’s first real diving car’.

We learnt at the weekend that Lamborghini are to reduce their CO2 footprint by 35%, and we recently learnt about some of Ferrari’s Hybrid plans from patent applications the boys from Maranello had filed. But today we learn that not only is Ferrari looking at Hybrid options, but that it intends showing a car very soon – probably at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November. Ferrari is looking at several options to keep the ‘Environmentalists’ happy, including Bio-Fuel and Turbo charging.
Ahead of a Tokyo motor show debut, VW is showing off the Twin-Up concept. Essentially an advanced version of the company's entry-level Up supermini, the Twin-Up runs a modified version of the plug-in diesel-electric hybrid driveline used in the high-tech XL1 for spectacular claimed combined consumption of 214 mpg on the Euro combined cycle along with a zero-emissions electric range of 31 miles. The Twin-Up name alludes to the new car's twin drive sources.
